The NFL play-offs are over and the Championship’s have been won, all that is left is to crown either the San Francisco 49ers or the Baltimore Ravens winners of Super Bowl XLVII…
So, without further adieu, we have decided to take you through what we think you need to know about Super Bowl 47!
1: When, Where and Who?!
The 47th Super Bowl takes place on Sunday 3rd February 2013 at The Mercedes-Benz Superdome, New Orleans. Sunday’s game will be the first Super Bowl there since Hurricane Katrina in 2005, and see’s the AFC Champions the Baltimore Ravens take on the NFC Champions, the San Francisco 49ers.
2: Brotherly Love – Harbaugh Bowl
This year it’s a family affair as both head coaches are related. Super Bowl 47 otherwise known as the ‘Harbaugh’ Bowl will see 49ers coach Jim Harbaugh go head to head with his older brother, Ravens coach John Harbaugh. When the Baltimore Ravens and San Francisco 49ers lock horns for that Lombardi trophy on Sunday, it will be the first coaching duel between brothers in 47 Super Bowls. This one won’t be forgotten in a while, definitely one for the family album!
3: The History
Both teams are previous Super Bowl Champions, however it’s the 49ers that have history on their side. San Francisco have won 5 Super Bowls, 1981 (XVI), 1984 (XIX), 1988 (XXIII), 1989 (XXIV), 1994 (XXIX) and will look to add to that this coming Sunday, whilst Baltimore only 1 win in 2000 after beating the New York Giants 34-7 . Linebacker Ray Lewis won MVP that season and is now, at the age of 37 considered to be one of the best linebackers of all time.
4: Half-Time Showdown – Beyonce
Okay, so obviously we are all excited for the Super Bowl, however this year’s half-time event means one thing – the comeback of Queen B – Beyonce! In keeping with the NFL theme, Bey dressed in a referee striped shirt teamed with leather hot pants in a promotional snap for Sunday’s extravaganza.
She follow’s in the footsteps of Madonna in 2012, who’s spectacle became the most-watched halftime show in history!! Boasting 114 million viewers, 3 million more than the actual game itself. So, use the time to re-stock on drinks and snacks, but also get ready to get out your dancing shoes..
5: The Players – Joe Flacco vs Colin Kaepernick
A Championship isn’t won due to one man (or woman) we know this, however to win a Super Bowl your quarter back needs to be on form, the best form if he’s get his hands on that Lombardi trophy. Both QB’s this year have their own playing styles – Joe Flacco has a great arm and an ability to throw the ball deep downfield to wide receiver’s such as Torrey Smith or Anquan Boldin.
Colin Kaepernick on the other hand is a dual-threat, the Ravens must try to keep him in the pocket… the boy is confident and he will run!! He also has a strong throwing game, especially if he uses our friend, and tight end Vernon Davis.
