England Women kick off their 2015 World Cup campaign on Tuesday, with their Group F opener against France. Head coach Mark Sampson has said, ‘there is a wave of optimism in the squad. We are happy, ready, determined and focused.’
Since taking over in 2013, Sampson has a strong record – a 70% win ratio, only losing four times in twenty competitive games. In qualifying for the World Cup the team have played ten, and won ten, so confidence is high.
However, the Lionesses face a tough French side who many deem as the strongest in the group so it will take England at their best to get that all important opening win. The remaining group fixtures for England are as follows:
Saturday 13th June: England Women vs Mexico Women (21:00 BST)
Wednesday 17th June: England Women vs Columbia Women (21:00 BST)
England’s first World Cup group match can be watched live from 5.30pm (BST) on BBC Two. A full BBC coverage schedule of tournament can be found here: http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/32951310
